Overview
FLEX is seeking an experienced Fiber Optic Technician/Testerto partner with us as an independent contractor on a project basis. You will contribute your expertise to GPU infrastructure deployment projects across the U.S., supporting high-performance computing systems and mission-critical environments. This is a contractor opportunity, with compensation based on experience and project scope. Future opportunities may be available depending on performance and client demand.
Location: Preferred East Coast but open to domestic US. Travel up to 75% for non-local resources. Travel and expenses to be covered by the employer.
Summary: A Fiber Optic Technician/Tester with experience testing MPO 8 or MPO 16 Fiber Optic Cables.

Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance: Performing regular maintenance checks on fiber optic systems to prevent issues and ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and resolving problems with fiber optic networks, including cable breaks and signal degradation.
- Splicing: Joining fiber optic cables together using specialized equipment, ensuring a seamless connection.
- Testing: Using OTDRs, power meters, and other tools to assess signal quality and identify faults. Experience with EXFO or AFL Testers is desired but not required.
- Documentation: Recording and documenting all installation and maintenance work, including test results.
- Safety: Following strict safety protocols when working with fiber optic cables and equipment, including working at heights or in confined spaces.
- Customer Support: May involve interacting with customers, providing assistance with their internet connections, and addressing their concerns.

- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of fiber optic principles, cable types, and testing procedures.
- Splicing Skills: Proficiency in fusion and mechanical splicing techniques.
- Troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose and resolve issues with fiber optic systems.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as lifting heavy equipment and working in various environments.
- Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with colleagues, customers, and other stakeholders.
- Attention to Detail: Accuracy in following procedures and documenting work.

- Computer Literacy: Proficiency in using computers and relevant software.
