Responsibilities
Performs routine work operating a telephone switchboard or console and receptionist duties. Responsibilities include placing, answering, and transferring local and long-distance calls; receiving visitors; and providing general information. Work requires the ability to interact harmoniously with individuals, their families, and staff. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for initiative and independent judgment. May require extended hours until the incoming switchboard employee relieves coverage; may require early arrival to provide coverage; may work alone; and may fulfill other duties as assigned. Hours: Saturday/Sunday 8:00am-4:00pm; Monday – Friday 6am-2pm/2pm-10pm. Overtime and holiday work may be needed. Shift may vary based on facility needs.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
- Attend work on a regular basis and follow shift schedules or rotating schedules, with possible extended shifts or overtime per agency policy.
- Communicate clearly and respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations; provide exceptional customer service.
- Answer and transfer calls on the switchboard; respond to medical, fire, and weather emergencies as required.
- Assist the general public, staff, and parents/guardians with information and passes as needed.
- Distribute lost funds from vending machines to staff and clients as applicable.
- Assist applicants with applying and distributing applications as appropriate.
- Log TEX-AN and long-distance calls; complete fire drill and medical emergency reports; support disaster response/COOP activities as needed.
- Provide clerical support to Security and Risk Management as needed.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Experience as a switchboard or console operator or receptionist; experience handling money; ability to work a flexible schedule; working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with adding machines, fax, printers/copiers, and other office equipment.

- Graduation from an accredited high school or GED
- Experience as a switchboard and receptionist
- Some experience handling money
- Ability to work a flexible schedule
- Experience providing exceptional customer service
- Clerical and computer experience
Additional Information
- Applicants must pass fingerprint background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, and LEIE.
