OSP Engineer
Location: South - Various, FL
Job Description:
Our client is seeking an experienced OSP Engineer to support outside plant network design initiatives. This role involves creating and modifying detailed drawings using CAD and GIS tools, performing high-level network design, and ensuring accuracy and conformance with engineering standards and client specifications. Key Responsibilities: Create and update detailed OSP engineering drawings using AutoCAD, QGIS, and other client-specific systems. Interpret sketches, layouts, and field notes to develop conduit and cable design plans. Design and layer outside plant facilities including conduit, fiber optic and copper cables (aerial, buried, and underground), manholes, hand holes, and utility poles. Analyze site surveys to translate field data into construction-ready design documents. Identify and avoid facility conflicts in rights-of-way, easements, and near existing utilities. Perform pole loading, bonding & grounding, and anchoring analysis for aerial facilities. Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and construction personnel to ensure accuracy and feasibility of designs. Acquire OSP records, utility maps, assessor maps, and construction prints from local municipalities and other sources. Prepare and submit permit applications to city, county, state, and regulatory agencies including those requiring traffic control, railroad, and environmental approvals. Maintain documentation and support system management, including file maintenance, data backup, and storage. Qualifications: Proficiency in AutoCAD, ARAMIS, GIS, O-Calc, and IQGeo tools (experience with Aramis and IQGeo is a plus). Strong knowledge of OSP engineering, including aerial, buried, and underground design practices. Experience reading and producing outside plant drawings, conduit prints, and permit drawings. Minimum 2 years of telecom design experience or an associate/bachelor's degree in a related field. Solid understanding of ROWs, easements, utility coordination, and permitting processes. Preferred experience with GPON and Corning Flexnap products. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work across internal and external teams. Capable of handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment; self-motivated and detail-oriented. Physical Requirements: Ability to sit and work on a computer for extended periods. Manual dexterity for operating a keyboard and standard office equipment. Visual acuity for close-up work and color differentiation. Occasional lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds.
