The Development Associate plays a vital support role within the Development team. This position assists in the implementation of marketing and communication efforts that enhance donor engagement, support fundraising initiatives, and increase the organization's visibility. Working closely with the Chief Development Officer and cross-departmental teams, the Coordinator helps develop and share compelling content across digital, print, and media channels.
Key Responsibilities: Assist in implementing marketing and communications plans aligned with fundraising and development goals. Coordinate with the CDO to ensure messaging supports campaign priorities, donor engagement strategies, and organizational objectives. Maintain and help execute an annual communications calendar, including email campaigns, newsletters, appeals, and special events. Draft and edit donor-focused content such as impact stories, newsletters, donor reports, case statements, and event materials. Support the creation of consistent branding and messaging across all communication channels. Manage day-to-day digital communications, including updates to the website, social media scheduling, and email marketing. Assist with the production and distribution of print materials such as brochures, annual reports, and direct mail pieces. Track performance of digital communications and prepare analytics reports to help improve engagement. Provide support for media relations, including drafting press releases and coordinating with media outlets as needed. Assist in the promotion of fundraising events and campaigns in partnership with the Development team. Collect impact stories, data, and testimonials from program teams to be used in donor communications. Help prepare presentation materials and talking points for the CDO and CEO. Requirements
One to three plus years of experience in nonprofit development, communications, or marketing preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail. Experience creating content for multiple platforms, including email, social media, websites, and print materials. Familiarity with digital marketing tools such as email marketing platforms Understanding of brand management and donor-centric messaging. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus. Basic knowledge of analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, social media insights) to evaluate communication effectiveness. Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners. A proactive, positive, and adaptable attitude, with a passion for nonprofit work and mission-driven storytelling. Pay & Benefits At Janus, base salary is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role.
