IT TECHNICIAN - WINDOWS UPGRADE PROJECT

$25.00 - $35.00 per hour
Tasks & Responsibilities The IT Technician will play a hands-on role in the successful delivery of a three-month Windows 10 to Windows 11 upgrade project. Responsibilities include assessing and upgrading existing PCs and laptops, and imaging, staging, and deploying replacement hardware if upgrading is not possible. The IT Technician will manage end-to-end setup of new devices, including joining systems to Active Directory, applying required configurations, and ensuring a seamless transition of user data and applications. While embedded within the IT Helpdesk team, the IT Technician will be dedicated to this project and held accountable for meeting milestones, minimizing downtime for end users, and ensuring all systems are deployed to organizational standards. Additional duties include documenting processes, providing clear communication to team members and end users, and escalating technical issues as needed to ensure timely resolution.
Education Requirements
Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent experience in IT support. Industry certifications preferred but not strictly required:
CompTIA A+ (foundational PC hardware/software skills) CompTIA Network+ (basic networking knowledge) Microsoft Certified: Windows Client or Modern Desktop Administrator Associate (preferred for Windows 10/11 environments).
Skills Requirements
Technical Skills
Proficiency in Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems (installation, upgrade paths, configuration, troubleshooting). Ability to assess Windows 11 compatibility using Microsoft tools (e.g., PC Health Check, system requirement evaluation). Experience with hardware setup and staging for new PCs (unboxing, BIOS configuration, OS installation, driver updates). Knowledge of Active Directory environment:
Joining PCs to the domain Managing user accounts and permissions Configuring Group Policy Objects (GPOs) for workstation management
Familiarity with manual imaging & deployment processes with Action1 Proficiency in installing and configuring business applications (browsers, antivirus, company-specific apps). Strong understanding of network connectivity troubleshooting (wired/wireless setup, DNS, DHCP, printer mapping). Ability to handle data migration from old to new machines (user profiles, documents, mapped drives).
Soft Skills
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple simultaneous upgrades/replacements. Clear communication skills for interacting with peers and end users during migration and explaining processes. Attention to detail to ensure proper configuration, domain policies, and security compliance. Problem-solving skills to address unexpected hardware/software compatibility issues. Ability to document upgrade/replacement procedures for consistency and knowledge sharing.
