Community Engagement & Trail Operations Steward-VHCB/MRPA

The member will participate in a number of projects spanning education, recreation, transportation, trail maintenance, and volunteer management. The Community Engagement & Trail Operations Steward will support this growing organization by maintaining existing trails, conducting outreach and events, partnering with local organizations on community projects, and continuing to make progress to build and construct a bike and pedestrian corridor connecting five towns. This position is part of the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board AmeriCorps (VHCB AmeriCorps). The VHCB AmeriCorps program supports the innovative dual-goal approach to creating stable affordable housing opportunities for Vermont residents while preserving the natural and working landscape. Mad River Path is a community-supported organization leading the implementation of the Active Transportation Corridor from Warren to Moretown in the Mad River Valley, Vermont. We connect communities and provide access to nature and opportunities for outdoor recreation for valley residents and visitors. This position is Full Time: Requires 1720 hours of service for an average of 40 hours per week for 41 weeks. Member will receive a living allowance of $30,500 (pre-tax), and an education award of $7,395 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Member Duties :

• Maintain 15 miles of paths as a part of a stewardship team using manual and power tools • Assist teaching groups of 10 students ages 9 - 14 in the backcountry settings • Safely operate motor vehicles and ride a bike as a way of getting to and from sites • Write for blog posts, local newspaper, and social media highlighting the mission, service activities, updates, and events. • Organize activities for students and volunteer work parties • Design and implement trail improvements and engage with the trail users • Assist with the completion of the Active Transportation Corridor Study -Participate in all VHCB AmeriCorps Trainings, Service Days, Events and Program Initiatives -Engage in professional and personal development activities and networking opportunities For full description, please visit https://vhcb.org/vhcb-americorps/service-opportunities/
