Department of Revenue is recruiting for a Compliance Specialist 1 position. We are looking for talented, detail-oriented individuals to join our Withholding, Other Taxes & fees Division in the Compliance Unit. This position is headquartered in our Salem office; however, the successful candidate may be eligible for in-state hybrid work. Hybrid work consists of performing duties onsite in a standard office environment and working remotely.

In order to be considered for Department of Revenue recruitments, you must reside within the state of Oregon. Current Revenue employees who live outside of Oregon may apply and will be considered.

t You Will Be Doing

Below is a sampling of job duties. It is not meant to encompass all duties. Work on projects related to Oregon state cigarette and tobacco tax programs. Conduct inspections at retail establishments, distributors and wholesalers throughout the state. Gather and analyze data from various sources to determine if cigarette or other tobacco tax distributors, wholesalers, retailers, or others are in compliance with Oregon tax laws. Apply laws, rules, and department policy and procedures to determine the correct tax. Maintain systems for tracking progress and completion of compliance training efforts. This Is What You Need to Qualify

Two years experience doing administrative research that included compiling and evaluating facts to recommend management action, or decide eligibility or compliance with program guidelines and regulations.

Note: college-level course work may substitute for the experience on the basis of 45-quarter units per year of experience.

Some positions may require: A Bachelor's Degree in Business/Public Administration or a related field.

The ideal candidate will possess the following desired skills and attributes:

Basic accounting principles. Experience with learning, performing, investigating, and enforcing statutes, laws, rules, regulatory standards, and policies. Good communication skills for extensive public contact; ability to deal with difficult people and diverse personalities. Ability to read and interpret technical and professional reports and records. This is an SEIU-represented position. This recruitment may be used to fill additional vacancies as they occur. The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect the additional 6.95%.
