Position Summary:
East Saint Louis School District 189 seeks committed and enthusiastic community members to serve as Volunteer/Athletic Support staff to assist school athletic programs and student-centered events across Pre-K through 12th grade. This non-paid, seasonal position plays a critical role in supporting students, coaches, athletic events, and school activities, while maintaining the values of professionalism, student safety, and community involvement.
Key Responsibilities: Assist coaches, athletic staff, and school personnel in preparing for, executing, and closing out practices, games, and athletic events. Serve as a positive role model, promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and respectful behavior among students. Provide logistical support during athletic and extracurricular events (e.g., setup, breakdown, equipment management, crowd monitoring). Supervise student-athletes in coordination with school staff as directed. Support students during travel or off-campus activities, as assigned and approved. Maintain confidentiality and uphold district policies, rules, and regulations. Demonstrate courtesy, dignity, respect, professionalism, empathy, and compassion at all times. Follow directions from coaches, principals, athletic directors, or designees. Complete required orientation, training, and clearance processes before engagement. Qualifications:
Required:
Must be at least 21 years of age. Completion of a background check and fingerprint clearance (paid by the volunteer or district, as determined). Commitment to the values and mission of East Saint Louis School District 189. Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with school staff. Availability during evenings or weekends depending on event scheduling. Ability to interact positively with students, staff, and community members. Preferred:
Previous experience working with youth, athletics, or schools. Familiarity with East Saint Louis community or school district. Additional Information:
This is a non-employee, volunteer position and does not include compensation or benefits. Assignments are seasonal and vary based on school and district needs. Volunteers are expected to dress appropriately and maintain a professional appearance and demeanor. The district reserves the right to end volunteer service at any time at its sole discretion.
