Position: Welder
Responsibilities
- Lay out, fit, and weld metal components to assemble structural forms as specified by layout, welding diagram, or work order.
- Daily Operations and Workflow: Follow daily signal reports to complete assigned tasks; select equipment and plan layout, assembly, and welding activities.
- Assembly and Welding: Lay out, position, align, and fit components in jigs or fixtures; secure parts using bolts, clamps, and tack welds; perform welding along flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead weld lines; examine welds to ensure specifications; pressure-test welds for air-tight retention; chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter.
- Repair and Modifications: Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts; repair broken or cracked metal objects, fill holes, and build up metal parts.
- Material Preparation and Tools: Use chop saws, hand plasma cutters, cutting torches, and belt sanders to fit parts; change welding gas cylinders and weld wire as required.
- Safety and Equipment Handling: Safely operate forklifts (stand-up and sit-down), power buggies, hoists, and scissor lifts per supervisor's discretion; handle machinery and equipment with care.
- Other Duties: Perform additional duties as assigned; regular and predictable attendance is required.
Education and Work Experience Requirements
- Associate's Degree or Welder Certificate from a technical college or trade school; or six months to one year of related experience/trainings; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working with Robotic Weld is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in interpreting prints and welding symbols.
- Ability to operate hand tools and air-powered tools; ability to operate a hoist; ability to read and use a tape measure and calipers.
Skills & Qualifications
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to effectively present information in one-on-one interactions.
- Mathematical proficiency: basic math including units of measure, fractions, and decimals.
- Reasoning ability: apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form.
- Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Must pass a Multiquip Welder Certification test within three months of employment.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly stand, walk, use hands, reach with arms; occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch; frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Stand for up to 10 hours a day in a fast-paced environment; specific vision abilities including close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- May be exposed to chemicals such as weld gas, spatter spray, and cleaners; loud environment requiring hearing protection.
Compensation & Benefits
- Shift: Monday - Thursday 5:00am - 3:30pm
- Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour; Welding certification pass provides automatic $2.00 increase.
