POSITION SUMMARY
Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation is hiring for a Temporary Maintenance & Operations Assistant. This position is located at Grady Cole Center and American Legion Memorial Stadium and will assist with athletic event logistics, working closely with event staff including public address announcer, scoreboard operator, parking staff, and security. The incumbent will also assist with athletic field and facility maintenance, including goals, nets, press box, and general grounds maintenance. The role may involve operating the scoreboard, clock, and sound equipment at events. Hours vary and include daytime, evenings, weekends, and possible holidays.
Facility Overview
The Grady Cole Center (3,000-capacity) and American Legion Memorial Stadium (10,000-seat) are large-scale public assembly venues owned and operated by MCPRD. They are adjacent on a 12-acre parcel near Central Piedmont Community College’s Central Campus in uptown Charlotte.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working at athletic venues
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Load and unload heavy material from trucks and vans
- Move and assist in moving furniture or equipment, including large and bulky objects
- Perform building maintenance such as checking fire extinguishers, changing light bulbs, and unstopping toilets
- Perform general custodial work
- Perform general groundskeeping such as picking up trash and debris, shoveling snow, and mowing the grass
- Perform general laborer-type work such as digging ditches
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience: No experience required
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Combination of relevant education and relevant experience: N/A
- Licenses and Certifications: Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges
- Computer Skills: General knowledge of applicable computer programs
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge: Light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction; safety precautions; basic tools
- Skills: Operating chainsaw and brush cutter, blowers, sweepers, and other equipment; performing heavy manual labor
