About 1X
We're an AI and robotics company based in Palo Alto, California, on a mission to build a truly abundant society through general-purpose robots capable of performing any kind of work autonomously. We believe that to truly understand the world and grow in intelligence, humanoid robots must live and learn alongside us. That's why we're focused on developing friendly home robots designed to integrate seamlessly into everyday life. We're looking for curious, driven, and passionate people who want to help shape the future of robotics and AI. If this mission excites you, we'd be thrilled to hear from you and explore how you might contribute to our journey.
Role Overview

You will work closely with hardware, firmware, AI, and production teams to bring up new boards and peripherals, improve system stability, and ensure the OS meets production-grade requirements. Your contributions will directly impact the capability, reliability, and scalability of our robotic platforms.
Responsibilities
Own and evolve our Yocto-based Linux distribution across multiple embedded platforms Build tools, abstractions, and documentation to make the OS easier for teams to develop on Add and maintain features in the OS layer-ranging from kernel patches to system services Collaborate with hardware and software teams to bring up new boards and integrate peripherals Debug and fix issues spanning bootloaders, device trees, kernel, and userspace Ensure OS images are stable, reproducible, and suitable for both development and production use Deep experience with Yocto and maintaining custom layers and recipes Strong understanding of Linux system architecture, including kernel and init systems Comfortable working with board bring-up, device trees, and low-level debugging Track record of supporting embedded platforms in production environments Ability to manage complexity across board support packages (BSPs), build artifacts, and deployment flows
Nice-to-Have
Familiarity with SoCs like Jetson, Qualcomm, or similar in Yocto-based setups Experience with OTA updates, secure boot, or factory provisioning Comfortable extending or customizing bootloaders and initramfs Knowledge of real-time kernel patches, thermal tuning, or power management Experience building tooling around Yocto to improve workflows for ease of team usage
