Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN Charge Nurse for a night shift Med/Surg unit role requiring a compact or ME RN license and prior charge experience.
Responsibilities Position is based in a hospital Medical Surgical Unit (non-surgical) Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 12-hour shifts 48 hours per week with every other weekend required Patients include adult med/surg cases except primary cardiac; common diagnoses include stroke, COPD, pneumonia, renal failure, electrolyte imbalance, and others Telemetry monitoring for medical patients is performed RN patient ratios: 1:5-6 at night (may vary by acuity and support) Floating required to any area with Med/Tele patients as needed Charting system: Cerner (experience not required) Equipment includes Alaris and Pyxis systems Primary responsibilities include overseeing nightly operations as charge nurse, supporting bedside care as needed Support personnel include a CNA, house supervisor, respiratory therapist, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, and allied health professionals on daytime shifts Two hospital orientation days plus one unit shift are provided All RTO subject to manager approval; holiday time off is not accepted First-time travelers are welcome to apply Professional scrubs in any color allowed; no crocs with holes, no artificial nails, and no personal cell phone use except during breaks Free parking is available in designated areas Flu vaccination required for all starts from 9/30/2024 onward with medical exemptions only Candidates must reside at least 100 miles south or southwest of Bangor, ME for eligibility
Requirements Active ME or compact state RN license required Minimum 1 year recent Med/Surg RN experience required Current BLS certification required NIHSS and ACLS preferred Charge nurse experience strongly preferred and willingness to serve as charge is expected Strong skills in rhythm strip interpretation, trach care, chest tube management, wound care, IV antibiotics, drain/tube management, IV starts, and central line management Comfortable with cardiac drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone), insulin drips, and heparin drips (training provided if needed) Cannot have worked in a permanent role with Northern Light Health hospitals
