Description: A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients. The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe, effective patient and family-centered care. Customer satisfaction and quality outcomes are key responsibilities. The RN assists in maintaining a financially stable unit. Professional development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education is essential. The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members. Applying the caring processes, the RN is responsible for assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the plan of care. The RN concentrates on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction. Educational and professional experiences are applied in the delivery of quality care. Mentoring and precepting staff are also key functions of the RN.
Job Responsibilities: Assessment: Performs assessments and reassessments per policy or as needed based on patient condition. Demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions. Development & Implementation: Initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care. Reviews and revises the plan as indicated. Collaborates with patients, families, and interdisciplinary services. Utilizes resources appropriately to support the needs of patients and families. Evaluation: Monitors and documents responses to clinical interventions. Education: Facilitates, coordinates, provides, and evaluates education specific to patient and family needs. Also provides education as appropriate to the care, treatment, and services during their stay and at discharge. Leadership: Delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel. Functions as a mentor and preceptor. Demonstrates and encourages teamwork. Identifies and communicates opportunities for improvement. Participates in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts. Implements practice changes and complies with regulatory standards. Participation in the governing model is expected.
