Description: A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients. The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe and effective patient and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes. The RN is responsible for maintaining a financially stable unit, promoting personal development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education. The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members. Applying the caring processes of a model of care, the RN has the responsibility to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care. The RN focuses on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction. The RN utilizes educational and professional experiences in delivering quality care and mentoring/precepting staff.
Job Responsibilities: - Assessment: Performs assessments and reassessments per policy and procedure or as warranted by patient condition; demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions. - Development & Implementation: Initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care and reviews and revises the plan as indicated. - Collaboration: Works with patients, families, and interdisciplinary services; utilizes resources appropriately to support the needs of the organization and patients. - Evaluation: Monitors and documents response to clinical interventions. - Education: Facilitates, coordinates, provides, and evaluates education specific to patient and family needs. - Leadership: Delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel; functions as a mentor and preceptor. - Teamwork: Encourages teamwork and communicates opportunities for improvement. - Quality Improvement: Participates in quality and safety processes and compliance with regulatory standards.
Patient Assessment: Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care. Synthesizes assessment data into a meaningful whole prior to communication with others. Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of individual patients and families. Develops relationships with families that promote their ability to advocate for the patient and their own needs.
Planning: Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update the plan of care. Utilizes available multidisciplinary resources in planning care. Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care. Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
Research: Reads journals that contain studies or articles applicable to nursing practice. Presents ideas and questions for assessment of applicability.
