2025 - 2026 School Year PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To effectively administer formal dyslexia testing to students who exhibit characteristics of dyslexia and provide leadership, support, and to reduce class sizes for those students identified as dyslexic. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification:
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university Valid Texas teacher certifications to include TExES Bilingual Certification Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) preferred. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Demonstrate a cognitive understanding of the subject matter and pedagogical skills in his/her teaching field Possess strong analytical skills Exhibit effective communication skills and techniques, including verbal, nonverbal, and media communication Knowledge and understanding of organizational development and conflict resolution Demonstrate highly effective organizational and consensus building skills Understand the value of planning and demonstrate ability to develop and implement short and long range instructional plans based upon effective instructional strategies Possess knowledge and understanding of technology and its use to enhance student achievement Understand the various learning styles and show competence in developing and delivering instruction appropriate to students' developmental needs Understand cultural diversity and show evidence of providing and delivering instruction appropriate to diverse cultures and populations, learning styles, and background experiences Demonstrate an understanding of the recommendation, assessment, identification and instruction of students with dyslexia as outlined by TEA in the state Handbook Handbook Possess knowledge base for utilizing and interpreting multiple forms of appropriate assessment measures for the identification of dyslexia Possess knowledge and understanding of the English Language Learner as it relates to dyslexia Exhibit understanding of the core principles of Response to Intervention as outlined by TEA in the Dyslexia Handbook Possess knowledge and understanding of the policies and procedures of MISD. EXPERIENCE:
minimum of five years successful teaching experience as a classroom teacher minimum of three years successful dyslexia instruction experience successful experience in a wide range of teaching experiences, including working with students who have special needs at various grade levels such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Follow state guidelines for appropriate and defensible assessment including using assessment tools that are valid and reliable in measuring the characteristics and core deficit areas of dyslexia Demonstrate application knowledge of the Texas Dyslexia Handbook Work collaboratively with evaluation staff in completing Full and Individual Evaluations (FIEs) which include dyslexia assessments Follow rules of confidentiality with parents, students, and school personnel Explain and interpret results of dyslexia assessment and state guidelines to ARD and 504 committee members Foster collaboration between teachers and teams on multiple campuses to support students identified with dyslexia Gather information and maintain records on students identified with dyslexia Continue as a learner by attending staff development and assessment training opportunities Perform other duties as assigned. Writing routine reports and correspondence Ability to meet deadlines from multiple assignment requests on a frequent basis Managing multiple projects, communicating effectively with all publics, and making sound decisions while maintaining emotional control Maintaining and displaying a positive attitude Expecting and reflecting the highest of expectations. Physical demands/environmental factors:
Intermittent walking, sitting, and standing Occasional warehouse visits to inventory merchandise and occasional lifting, moving of up to 20 lbs Travel within the district.
