As one of the leading providers of professional liability insurance, we are excited to announce an opportunity for a Director of Complex Claims Consulting focused on Healthcare Professional Liability. In this key role, you will manage approximately 65 high-exposure claims across various healthcare segments, with about 25% travel required. This position features a flexible, hybrid work schedule and is available near any CNA office.
Responsibilities
Lead intricate investigations of claims, evaluating liability and damages to shape case strategies, determining whether claims should be settled or litigated.
Develop and implement tactical litigation management approaches.
Advise management on legal risks and litigation strategies in complex scenarios.
Oversee litigation efforts, managing external counsel, and monitoring trials while staying abreast of legal developments.
Negotiate and direct the most sophisticated settlement agreements, ensuring proper reserves and economical resolutions.
Deliver comprehensive research and legal analysis, offering guidance on intricate legal matters.
Collaborate with senior management in formulating claims policies and business strategies.
Mentor and train less experienced Claim Professionals, fostering their development.
Other duties may be assigned as needed.

In-depth knowledge of the commercial insurance industry, products, and claim practices.
Exceptional communication skills, capable of building collaborative relationships and articulating complex claims effectively to management and partners.

Extensive negotiation experience with proven success in developing resolution strategies.

Expertise in interpreting commercial insurance policies and coverage.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and adaptable to new business-related software.
Appreciation for diverse opinions and ideas.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree required; JD preferred in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
A minimum of ten years of relevant experience, especially in medical malpractice, is desirable.
Ability to secure and maintain an Insurance Adjuster License within 90 days of hire, if applicable.
Advanced negotiation skills are essential.
Professional designations such as CPCU are highly encouraged.
The average base salary for this role in Chicago/New York/California ranges from $144,500 to $205,000, based on factors like experience and location.
