Position Overview: The Development Director is a key member of Surmount’s volunteer-run Executive Team, responsible for overseeing and implementing strategic fundraising and development initiatives. This role will focus on expanding Surmount’s donor base, securing grants, and developing sustainable revenue streams to support Surmount’s mission and programs. Reports to:

Executive Director Key Responsibilities: Fundraising Strategy Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including annual giving, corporate sponsorships, major gifts, and grants. Donor Engagement and Cultivation Build and maintain relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors. Create and implement donor engagement initiatives, including recognition programs and regular communications. Grant Writing and Management Identify potential grants and funding opportunities; write grant proposals, and manage reporting requirements to maintain strong relationships with grantors. Campaign Management Lead the planning and execution of major fundraising campaigns and events, such as the annual Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive, to raise awareness and funds. Collaboration and Partnership Development Work closely with other members of the Executive Team to align development strategies with program needs and organizational goals. Data Management Utilize CRM tools to track and analyze donor information, engagement metrics, and fundraising results to inform strategy. Experience: Minimum of 2 years in nonprofit development, fundraising, or related field; volunteer management experience is a plus. Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in donor outreach and grant writing; familiarity with CRM software is a plus. Self-motivated, proactive, with a passion for community empowerment and a commitment to Surmount’s mission. Ability to collaborate effectively with a remote volunteer team and build strong relationships with external stakeholders. Time Commitment: This is a volunteer position that requires approximately

5-10 hours
