Position summary

The Forklift Operator is responsible for operating power industrial trucks to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count merchandise. The operator is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle and may perform Order Filler and Checker duties in addition to their own. They are responsible for the accurate storing, shipping and receiving of product to meet company safety, security, and productivity standards.

Responsibilities

  • Receiving/Put-Away: Unload inbound shipments safely and move product to storage locations. Input data accurately into WMS.
  • Receiving/Put-Away: Efficiently stack and store product in appropriate area.
  • Receiving/Put-Away: Maintain an organized work area.
  • Order Picking: Pull and prepare for shipment, ensuring that the exact number and type of product is loaded and shipped.
  • Order Picking: Perform picking duties efficiently to meet customer service standards.
  • Order Picking: Prepare freight for operations accurately and in a timely manner as required.
  • Quality: Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage.
  • Quality: Report quality variances.
  • Delivery: Move product from staging/storage to production lines and/or staging docks.
  • Delivery: Ensure proper documentation accompanies freight.
  • Inventory: Keep records and reports to maintain tight inventory control and security.
  • Inventory: Assist in physical inventories and ensure proper stock rotation.
  • Safety, Housekeeping, and Compliance: Maintain a clean, neat, orderly work area and assist in security of the warehouse.
  • Safety, Housekeeping, and Compliance: Load, unload, move, stack, and stage product and materials using forklift and other power equipment.
  • Safety, Housekeeping, and Compliance: Maintain equipment in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion; inspect and perform minor maintenance on equipment.
  • Safety, Housekeeping, and Compliance: Operate all equipment safely and efficiently following prescribed work methods; maintain active forklift certification.
  • Maintenance: Perform or assist in building, grounds, and equipment maintenance as assigned.
  • Other site-specific duties as needed, including overtime as required.

Supervisory responsibilities

None

Minimum qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 6 months experience in a logistics/distribution environment.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment (MHE).
  • Ability to work in unregulated temperatures within the warehouse during seasonal changes.

Certificates, licenses, registrations

  • Satisfactory completion of a forklift training program.

Skills, knowledge and abilities

  • Basic computer skills; RF scanners; WMS functions.
  • English language skills (reading, writing, verbal).
  • Basic to intermediate mathematical skills to verify quantities and counts.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy; ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Adaptability to change and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience in a warehouse/logistics environment.
  • 1-2 years forklift experience; current or prior MHE certification.

Physical demands

  • Occasionally: Handling/Fingering, Sitting
  • Frequently: Bending
  • Constantly: Walking and standing
  • Ability to lift/carry and push/pull 21-50 pounds; reach above shoulder, reach outward, squat or kneel as needed.

Work environment

The work environment typically features a warehouse setting with a noise level ranging from low to moderate; exposure to fumes or airborne particles is rare.
