About The Position
We are seeking a skilled Nurse Practitioner specializing in Family Practice for a locum tenens position in a Correctional Facility in California. This 6-month assignment begins on 08/06/2025 with a potential for extension. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8-hour days, totaling 40 hours per week. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive nursing care, execute physician's orders, perform examinations and treatments, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and formulate patient care plans. Additional responsibilities include monitoring inmate health, maintaining medical records, providing health education, and participating in multi-disciplinary meetings to ensure high-quality healthcare services in a correctional setting.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:
• Provide comprehensive nursing care, including executing physician's orders and performing examinations and treatments
• Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess patients' clinical problems and healthcare needs
• Formulate prognoses and patient care plans in collaboration with physicians and other health professionals
• Recommend and administer treatments within the scope of licensure
• Monitor inmate inpatient hospitalizations and ensure appropriate care
• Maintain cleanliness of equipment and work area
• Utilize established policies and procedures while exercising independent judgment
• Evaluate and improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of medical services
• Maintain security and confidentiality of all medical records
• Monitor potential catastrophic illnesses and pharmacy use
• Provide health counseling and education on individual or group basis
• Participate in staff meetings and multi-disciplinary committee meetings
• Engage in functions specific to a correctional environment, including working rotating shifts and checking secure areas
• Evaluate and recommend safety requirements for patients and staff
Additional Information:
• Must be licensed to practice in California
• Experience in Family Practice required
• Comfort working in a correctional facility setting essential
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills required
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
