Travel Job Description American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med Surg RN for night shifts on a Urology/Nephrology unit, requiring an active IL RN license and proficiency in telemetry and renal care.
Responsibilities Work in the Medical Surgical unit focusing on Urology and Nephrology in an acute care, Level I trauma, Magnet hospital 25-bed unit with an average daily census of 23 patients Night shifts are available in 4x12 or 3x12 hour formats from 18:45 to 07:15 Every other weekend is a required work commitment Floats required to other Medical Surgical units as needed within the hospital or affiliates Charge RN responsibilities assigned as needed Cerner charting experience required Provide care for complex urological and nephrology patients including hemodialysis and pre/post care Participate in rapid response teams and manage emergency situations as necessary First time travelers are considered if they have a solid RN foundation with more than 2 years of Med/Surg experience Work in a collaborative team environment with charge responsibilities as needed Scrub attire is any solid color Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays if they fall within the assignment No on-call responsibilities Parking permit is provided at no cost and must be obtained during orientation Locals are accepted with no distance restriction Employees who have worked as permanent or PRN at this health system must have a 12-month gap before applying as a traveler Requested time off ideally should not exceed 5 days
Requirements Active IL RN license required (must be current or in application process at time of applying) Minimum of 2 years’ Med/Surg experience required, including experience with MS/Tele and telemetry monitoring BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross only; RQI cards not accepted) Proficiency required in pre/post hemodialysis management, rapid response, cardiac monitoring, and renal failure management Skills in blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, PICC management, IV insertion, and administration of Heparin Experience in respiratory management including chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, nasal cannula, portable oxygen, and non-invasive airway management Competence in isolation precautions, wound care, and wound vac usage Cerner EMR experience required
