Montgomery County Public Schools, Virginia is accepting applications for a purchasing specialist position for the 2025-2026 school year. This position will begin work in mid-December, 2025.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Purchasing Specialist assists the Supervisor of Purchasing in maintaining the vendor database, processing purchase orders, providing coverage in the warehouse when needed, and compiling reports such as reconciliation of credit card accounts. This position works closely with administrators and other school staff to train bookkeepers and assist on their budgets and purchase related issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills Working knowledge of commonly used office software including Google Suite, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and database experience Functional knowledge of commonly used office equipment and work-flow technologies Ability to demonstrate an unquestionable degree of confidentiality Ability to multi-task, work with interruptions and work calmly under pressure Demonstrate dependability, punctuality, and reliability in fulfilling responsibilities Ability to maintain administrative and fiscal records; prepare reports and answer questions from such records PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Accounting or related field, or equivalent experience in administrative office skills Experience in a public school system Experience in integrated software systems such as MUNIS ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Maintains the vendor database for both MUNIS and for the School Funds Online financial system Reviews, corrects, and processes all purchase orders in MUNIS Processes monthly purchase order reports for each school and adjusts purchase orders based on the school response Reconciles district credit card monthly invoices Assists bookkeepers in each school on budget and purchasing related questions Trains all new bookkeepers on MUNIS Orders office supplies or other items needed by Purchasing office

FLSA:

Non-Exempt

SALARY:

$35,290.68 - $65,604.68 annually, with benefits; commensurate with experience and pro-rated to start date
