Summary:

The Anatomic Pathology department is a large department that consists of 28 employees working across all three shifts. The department acts as a hub for all of Nuvance system in processing all of the pathology specimens for all 7 hospitals as well as outpatient facilities. A full night shift staff is necessary in order to meet the turn around time expectations. It is important that there is direct supervision, especially on the off shifts, to provide coordination of tasks, training and competency assessment, and help in providing appropriate feedback during annual reviews.

Responsibilities:

1. Assists the supervisor with the daily operations of the laboratory section to ensure uninterrupted workflow, quality and timely results, and customer satisfaction.

2. Functions as a model to promote teamwork among staff members and foster positive employee morale. Achieves organization's established expectations regarding quality of service, teamwork and staff. Is compliant with all hospital policies and regulatory requirements.

3. Responsible for communication to all staff via night shift huddles and regularly scheduled staff meetings. Pertinent information updates are communicated to appropriate stakeholders within and outside of the department.

4. Assists in the employee selection process within the department. Performs all hospital required employee rounding and performance appraisals in a timely manner. Works in partnership with the supervisor in employee counseling, coaching, and discipline as necessary.

5. Collaborates with the supervisor to ensure proper scheduling and timecard approval within the department and approves time off.

6. Assists in the evaluation, coordination, development, implementation, and validation of new systems and equipment within the laboratory as required. Recommends and helps implement system changes to increase efficiency and accuracy of workflow.

7. Assists in the implementation of new procedures/policies and approved section processes with staff. Reviews all section procedure manuals.

8. Maintains technical competency within the department. Works collaboratively with the section supervisor to ensure training and technical competency have been completed in a timely manner for all staff. This includes onboarding of new staff.

9. Confirms section participation and reporting in approved proficiency programs as required by regulatory agencies.

10. Troubleshoots and resolves technical problems related to assigned section. Functions as a technical consultant to staff and physicians.

11. Participates in the laboratory's Quality program by reviewing section event logs

12. Assists in the section's inventory control to ensure proper levels of reagents, controls, standards and disposables.

13. Maintain and Model Nuvance Health Values.

14. Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.

15. Performs other duties as required.
