Student Employment Opportunity: Palmer Academic Success Services (PASS) Peer Mentor
**This position is for current Palmer College of Chiropractic students only.
Function:
The Palmer Academic Success Services (PASS) Peer Mentor conducts engaging group or individual sessions for first and second-trimester students, in addition to transfer or returning students. Peer Mentors develop an enduring, trusting relationship with students and help them:
Navigate the transition into the Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) program with confidence and clarity
Develop effective study strategies and life skills to implement within the classroom and outside of the classroom as students work toward individual academic and personal goals
Become more involved on campus by referring them to appropriate department workshops and/or campus resources.
Organizational Relationship:
Responsible to the department of Student Academic Support Centers PASS program for successful performance of assigned duties.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Offer guidance and support to individuals who need help
Assist individuals in developing important academic and life skills
Provide advice and assistance with Time Management, Study Habits, Peer Create and maintain a safe and supportive environment for participants
relationships and networking, etc.
Help individuals build their self-confidence and resilience
Offer a listening ear and provide emotional support
Facilitate group discussions and activities for New Students
As Federal Work study students, Peer Mentors must submit accurate timesheets that comply with policies and procedures of Financial Planning and Student Academic Support. Students will be paid for hours worked and approved by the PASS supervisor.
All work study students are expected to act as an employee of the college. Students must report on time for scheduled shifts, note what work was performed in Paycom on each session, report illness or absences to supervisor and fellow leaders in a timely manner, and follow all department and college policies. Any deviation will result in termination and possible ethics charges.
Desired Skills:
Strong interpersonal skills
Knowledge and completion of the course(s) with which they will be assisting
Positive attitude, self-motivated, and highly responsible
Must be able to attend Peer Mentor training and Meetings
Familiar with college resources and policies to help refer students to the right service
Experience mentoring other students, but other highly qualified students could be considered
Disclaimer: A student’s length of participation in the Student Employment Program will be from the date of hire until termination either by student, supervisor, or Office of Financial Planning and not to exceed the student’s enrollment at Palmer College of Chiropractic.
