Function
Business Ambassadors provide an indispensable service to Palmer College of Chiropractic by serving as liaisons and educators to current Palmer students, Palmer faculty and staff, Palmer Alumni, and business professionals. Business Ambassadors support the mission of the Palmer Center for Business Development through outreach, mentoring, programming, networking and education.
The Mission of the Palmer Center for Business Development
The Palmer Center of Business Development provides information and education to Palmer Students regarding best business and entrepreneur practices in the field of chiropractic. The PCBD also provides career resources and direction to promote student success beyond graduation from the Palmer College of Chiropractic.
Business Ambassador Learning Outcomes
-Business and Entrepreneurship Practices
Business Ambassadors will learn best business and entrepreneurship practices, as well as the skills necessary to be a business owner / entrepreneur. Business Ambassadors will also develop education and instruction skills.
-Planning and Event Management
Business Ambassadors will develop the necessary skills to plan and implement large- and small-scale events and programs.
-Marketing / Promotion
Business Ambassadors will learn the process and technique of promoting, selling and distributing a small business.
-Networking
Business Ambassadors will learn to cultivate relationships with faculty, staff, alumni and other speakers that will allow them to make valuable professional connections for their future.
-Mentoring
Business Ambassadors will develop exceptional interpersonal skills by meeting with, listening and assisting individual students with their career goals.
-Verbal and Written Communication Skills
Business Ambassadors will gain strong communication skills through public speaking and written communication through representation of the PCBD.
-Greater Insight into the Profession
-Business Ambassadors will gain a “big picture’ and diverse view of the field of chiropractic and will have greater breadth and depth of knowledge about being a successful chiropractor and businessperson.
Qualifications and Preferred Skills:
Must be in good academic standing within Palmer College of Chiropractic.
Exhibit passion for the future of the chiropractic profession and moving it forward.
A business background is not required for the Business Ambassador position, however, a keen interest in learning best practices in business and entrepreneurship is necessary.
Exhibit a strong desire to connect with and provide support to other students.
Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience planning and implementing programs and events is preferred but not required.
An entrepreneurial, creative and outside-the-box mindset is valued.
The ability to attend & participate in traditional and annual University events that include New Student Orientation, Experience Palmer, Palmer 360, Homecoming, Career & Association Fairs, etc.) on a consistent rotation with other Business Ambassadors is important.
Ability to attend most meetings, training and retreats.
Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of the Center for Business Development.
Time Commitment:
Complete a minimum of 25 hours of office work per trimester:
10 hours per trimester in bi-weekly Business Ambassador meetings held during Tuesday Club Hour
1-2 hours per Trimester marketing PCBD events in the form of Class Announcements, participating in social media marketing and supporting other assigned marketing strategies.
2-3 hours per week maintaining office hours in the PCBD and/or meeting individually with students to provide career and business information and support, as well as reviewing the appropriate Career Success Checklist.
1-2 hours per semester assisting with pop-ups, business library marketing, and other PCBD initiatives.
Additional hours above the 25 required will be in the form of PCBD and university special event support and program attendance.
Accommodation can be made through Jacque Bollinger, the Coordinator of the Palmer Center for Business Development, for academic and family needs. However, dates and times for Palmer activities and events are announced in advance and should be considered in Ambassador schedule planning.
