Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled
High Voltage Substation Project Manager
to lead the overall management of HV construction and operations. This role is responsible for overseeing planning, subcontractor coordination, budget management, and safe project execution. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in substation design and construction, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to manage high-profile renewable energy projects from early development through completion.
Responsibilities:
Perform all duties of a Project Engineer and provide leadership across HV project scopes. Review Power Purchase Agreements, Interconnection Agreements, System Impact Studies, Facility Studies, and utility/customer requirements for compliance. Create and manage project-specific HV budgets. Develop subcontractor scopes of work and support subcontracting efforts in collaboration with PV Project Managers. Oversee subcontractor performance, including billings, RFIs, risk tracking, and progress reporting. Manage HV scope changes and ensure appropriate documentation. Participate in project kickoff meetings, utility coordination meetings, and owner/client meetings. Lead construction schedule and scope review sessions. Coordinate procurement of HV equipment with engineering and procurement teams. Provide field oversight for PV energization support and initial synchronization. Maintain accurate documentation, RFIs, and final completion punch lists. Direct safe work practices in energized substations in alignment with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and company safety standards. Travel regularly to active project sites (local and interstate). Support business development and contribute to company growth initiatives. Qualifications:
Minimum
5 years of experience
in design and/or construction of power substations. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), PMP certification, or directly relevant industry experience preferred. NFPA 70E certification strongly preferred. Skilled knowledge of substation equipment, construction methods, and safe operations. Strong understanding of dispatching practices and utility coordination. Proficiency in scheduling (P6 preferred) and standard office software. Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Must be comfortable in union environments and managing to union standards Per diem varies by location (Travel 2 weeks per month) Performance Objectives:
