Overview
The Instrument/Sterile Processing Technician Supervisor provides support and leadership related to the cleaning of equipment and sterilization of instruments. The Supervisor is responsible and accountable for coordinating and planning workflow and other activities. In addition, the supervisor decontaminates, prepares and maintains surgical instruments and equipment; prepares performance evaluations and disciplinary actions; provides cleaning, reprocessing and sterilization services to Surgical Services and all patient care areas. Qualifications
EDUCATION High School Diploma or equivalent. EXPERIENCE Three years of sterile processing, surgical instrument or instrument technician experience. EQUIVALENCY Two years of surgical technologist experience may substitute for the three years of sterile processing, surgical instrument or instrument technician experience. CERTIFICATION(S) CSPDT or CSPM or CRCST (CBSPD CSPDT; CSPM; IAHCSMM CRCST). Responsibilities
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform. Manage daily activities, supervise department staff, and serve as a liaison with department leadership. Handle case cart functions, including picking surgical service preference cards for OR and Procedure Center cases. Oversee essential functions and equipment processing, ensuring par levels are maintained for floors. Perform decontamination of durable medical equipment and OR surgical instruments. Execute Sterile Processing functions using various sterilization methods. Precept and mentor new employees. Participate in departmental, divisional, and organizational committees and projects as assigned. Engage in professional education and growth within Sterile Processing and instrument technology, maintaining certifications and staying current with industry trends. Competencies

Decision Making: Coordinates and supervises several functions, programs, or projects in various stages of completion; directs two or more employees. Communications: Contacts involve negotiation and resolution of problems with discretion, judgment, and specialized knowledge. Supervision Received: Under managerial direction; accountable for achieving work objectives; issues may be reviewed by higher-level supervisors. Physical Requirements
