The Role
The Senior Buyer owns sourcing and procurement of direct materials and services from project BOMs, delivering optimal total landed cost, supplier on-time delivery, and quality while supporting schedule commitments. You will set category strategies, negotiate commercial terms, and partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Project Management, Logistics, and Manufacturing to enable program success. This position reports to
Supply Chain Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Own the end-to-end purchasing cycle for assigned categories (e.g., fabrication & machining, electrical/controls, robotics, assemblies) from RFQ through PO placement, change management, and closeout. Lead negotiations (pricing, payment terms, Incoterms, warranty/quality, delivery) to achieve best-value outcomes and protect CONVERGIX with robust terms & conditions. Drive cost performance: deliver annual cost-savings/PPV targets, implement value-engineering, and maintain a visible savings pipeline tied to projects. Manage suppliers: implement scorecards (OTD, quality, responsiveness), escalate recovery plans, and execute corrective actions/RMAs for non-conformance. Execute buys from BOMs in alignment with corporate SCM standards and project schedules; proactively expedite critical path items when necessary. Develop and execute long-term category strategies to improve cost, quality, delivery, service, and supply assurance; monitor market trends to inform sourcing decisions. Collaborate with Engineering on technical reviews, manufacturability, and alternates; build product/process knowledge via workshops, shop floor/plant visits, and benchmarking. Optimize working capital: align order quantities, lead times, and delivery plans to inventory and cash objectives; support accurate promises to the project team. Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable trade requirements (e.g., import/export documentation, country-of-origin). Share best practices with SCM teams across business units to standardize processes and tools. Qualifications and Experience
Essential
Bachelor’s in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field. 5+ years in strategic/operational procurement within automation, capital equipment, and/or machine tool environments; proven ownership of $10M+ annual spend. On-site capability at Bridgman, MI; ability to travel
Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills; able to read and comprehend contracts and commercial terms. Proficiency with ERP/MRP purchasing, Excel (pivot tables/lookups), and Microsoft Office. Cross-functional communication skills with Engineering, PM, Manufacturing, Sales, and Logistics. Working knowledge of total landed cost (price, freight, duties/tariffs), Incoterms, and supplier quality basics (non-conformance, CAPA, RMA). Ability to interpret engineering drawings/BOMs and collaborate on manufacturability. Desirable
CPSM/CSCP or similar credentials; APICS/ISM involvement. Experience sourcing machined/fabricated parts, controls/PLC, robotics, custom assemblies. Exposure to basic export/import documentation and risk controls. Physical Demands
