Overview

The position is responsible for adjusting and/or coordinating with independent adjusters to investigate, negotiate, and settle property insurance claims within designated authority limits. This role requires strong analytical skills to assess coverage, document evaluations, and negotiate settlements while ensuring proper payment disbursement. While the primary responsibility is handling property claims, this position may also require or offer opportunities to handle claims in other lines, such as casualty or automobile. This allows the candidate to expand their expertise and support the broader needs of the claims department as necessary. This position may be filled at a Property Claims Examiner level depending on the relevant skills and experience of the candidate. Principal Accountabilities

Investigates property claims, ensuring a thorough review of facts, policy terms, and conditions to determine coverage. Manages claim assignments to independent adjusters, appraisers, and vendors while monitoring quality and cost control. Maintain and update case reserves appropriately based on ongoing assessments. Identify subrogation opportunities and refer cases for recovery when applicable. Business Insight and Analytics

Detect potential fraud and escalate suspicious cases to Claims Management. Make informed claim settlement decisions within authorized limits and company guidelines. Communication and Relationship Building

Engage professionally with claimants, insured parties, and other stakeholders. Handle complex interactions with empathy and a customer-first mindset. Draft and issue denial or reservation of rights letters in compliance with legal and company policies. Leadership

3 years of prior exposure to property or auto insurance through related work experience Knowledge of basic insurance principles, risk management, and claims processes Education

A relevant 4-year degree is preferred. Insurance coursework (AIC preferred) and state licensing (Maine Adjusters License preferred) are advantageous. Skills

Strong knowledge of comparative negligence laws and auto claims regulations. Proficient in PC applications and diary systems for task management. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills based on company policies and claim details. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a focus on professionalism and customer service.
