Buyer/Planner

Job Summary

The Buyer/Planner is responsible for managing procurement and production planning activities to ensure the timely availability of materials and components in support of manufacturing operations. This position requires close coordination with suppliers, internal stakeholders, and production teams to maintain inventory accuracy, meet delivery schedules, and drive overall supply chain efficiency.

Reporting to the Materials Manager, the Buyer/Planner will play a key role in maximizing service performance while minimizing inventory investment across select product groups. Success in this role will be achieved through a combination of detailed short-term planning and effective mid-range forecasting to balance supply and demand.

Job Responsibilities

Service (40%)

Ensure materials are available to support customer requirements while minimizing the freight costs

Collaborate with internal and external Customers and Suppliers to prioritize and deliver products and services that meet or exceed the business needs.

Procure MRO items at appropriate levels and price.

Monitor material shortages, identify and implement corrective actions

Keep material availability dates updated and accurate

Expedite critical or past due orders and revise purchase order dates.

Continuously look for service opportunities

Overall product line responsibility for service levels

Hold monthly meetings with key vendors to understand capacity/constraints.

Work with cross functional teams such as Engineering, Accounting, Sales, and Project Management to resolve issues quickly.

Inventory (30%)

Provide forecasts to major suppliers

Create and execute purchase orders based on MRP recommendations.

Follow-up on rejects to ensure they are expeditiously dispositioned

Help with new products releases and ensure they are coordinated and managed to project plans / milestones

Continuously look for inventory opportunities

Monitor "aged" inventories to identify opportunities to reduce and prevent

Overall product line responsibility for inventory levels

Get all obsolete inventory dispositioned and ultimately consumed, sold or scrapped

Source Mecho’s highly customized stampings and components at the best price and lead time possible.

Process interplant branch transfers as required.

People, Process, Culture (20%)

Review procedures and practices to identify continuous improvement opportunities

Provide a "Best Experience" to all contacts by consistently following our "Core Value and Cultural Behaviors"

Special projects as assigned

Participate in continuous improvement and safety activities.

Maintenance (10%)

Create work orders and purchase orders in accordance with our service and inventory objectives

Monitor and ensure all lead times are accurate

Help maintain system accuracy, including lead-time, minimums, current supplier information, and current purchase order data with cross functional teams.

Requirements Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Engineering and/or graduate degree

3+ years of experience in Supply Chain or Operations preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle changing priorities and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Experience interacting with cross functional team including manufacturing, engineering, quality, materials, logistics, sales & marketing.

Demonstrated planner/buyer management skills.

Strong analytical and quantitative abilities. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Strong mathematical ability

Possess very strong analytical skills

Experience in manufacturing and material buying activities

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong presentation skills

Demonstrated problem resolution and crisis management

Proactive and Self-motivated with business perspective and a sense of urgency

Preferred candidate will have prior experience with SAP, Anaplan, and/or Friedman Corporation(Frontier software/FRN)
