Description
Under general direction, the purpose of the position is to perform responsible administrative and professional work assisting the Director with the planning, organization and management of community parks activities, maintenance and development. Employees in this classification are responsible for ensuring safe, quality parks and facilities accessible to the general public. Position has considerable responsibility in recommending and overseeing the upkeep, upgrade, construction and/or renovation of parks facilities, as needed. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports, observations and by results obtained.
Days/Hours: Monday - Friday, 8AM - 5PM Examples of Duties
Assists in the planning, organization and implementation of departmental goals and objectives; assists in the formulation of division policies and procedures. Plans, organizes, and implements parks maintenance, repair and development activities; coordinates renovation, construction and development projects. Directs, supervises, evaluates and schedules activities and projects of assigned staff; providing safe facilities and aesthetically beautiful public properties. Oversees the daily operation of the senior center and future facility. Develop and administer various service and maintenance contracts; ensuring employees and citizens with safe and well-maintained equipment and facilities. Coordinates and manages parks construction and renovation projects; enhancing the long-term utilization of facilities for citizens and visitors. Manages and addresses customer concerns and complaints. Performs complex administrative and accounting duties, e.g., reviews and evaluates program statistical data, reviews submitted research reports and documentation. Oversees the safety inspection, repair and replacement of playgrounds; works with contractors to determine equipment to be installed; trains employees on proper performance of inspections; Manages operation and revenues of vending and community buses; assists in coordination and implementation of special events. Performs moderately complex administrative duties, e.g., reviews and evaluates program statistical data, generates and submits reports and documentation, researches special projects and issues. Assists Director with annual budget preparation; reviews and maintains accounts; monitors budgetary expenditures. Assists with the department in the accreditation process as needed. Oversees operations of the community shuttle bus. Assists other department with RFP development, contract implementation, interviews and events.
Typical Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Recreation or related field. Five (5) to seven (7) years of responsible experience in general public parks/recreation management, to include experience in Senior recreational programming oversight, facilities maintenance and upkeep; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess valid Florida Driver's License. Parks and Recreation Professional Certification, preferred. Supplemental Information
Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.
