General Description
Employees of this class collect fees from participants for rink admission and skate rental. Rink Aides also issue ice skates, monitor the rink and enforce posted rules of conduct, assist beginning skaters, and perform routine maintenance activities. This position is distinct from other general recreation positions in that the work involves specific duties at ice rinks which require the ability to skate. Positions of this class are only part-time and/or seasonal in nature. Direct supervision is received from higher level staff. Related work is performed as required.
CITY RESIDENCY IS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION
Typical Work Activities
Collects fees and operates cash register, following all cash handling procedures;
Issues and collects ice skates;
Enforces rules of conduct for youth and adult participants;
Monitors participants’ behavior and assesses ice conditions while skating the rink;
Administers first aid when necessary, or gets help from qualified staff member;
Monitors audience behavior at hockey games, ice shows, and other special events, and enforces rules pertaining to these events;
Assists beginning skaters and may assist skating instructors or give lessons as necessary;
Keeps area free of debris;
Reports unsafe conditions, damage to equipment or facility, or particularly difficult problems with participants or permit users;
Assists with scheduling or rescheduling facility use for groups.
Minimum Qualifications
There are no minimum educational or experience requirements.
Employees must be fifteen (15) years of age or older and able to ice skate.
Applicants under the age of 18 will be required to supply a work permit issued by their school district.
