Metrology Engineer Intern – Hickory, North Carolina Summer 2026

Overview At US Conec, we design and manufacture precision fiber-optic interconnects that power the world's fastest data centers, telecom networks, and supercomputers. In other words? We're the backbone powering AI. If you are a recent grad who loves hands-on work and problem solving, this is your chance to shine. As a Metrology Engineer Intern, you'll team up with our metrology squad to test gear, design fixtures in CAD, and streamline production processes. Responsibilities Dive into lab testing of new metrology equipment and procedures Model custom fixtures and tools in CAD Spot and eliminate extra steps on the production floor Write simple programs for user-friendly production interfaces Brainstorm and contribute to confidential, high-impact projects Sample Projects Turn rough notes into polished, certified work instructions Automate repetitive measurement routines to free up operator time Design fixture tweaks that boost accuracy and speed Preferred Majors and Skills Majors: Manufacturing Engineering, Metrology, or Precision Engineering focus Familiar with metrology fundamentals—either through coursework or side projects Comfortable using CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.) Strong grasp of basic statistics and data analysis Some experience with Python or MATLAB Detail-oriented, collaborative, and excited by technical challenges This internship is a chance to sharpen your technical skills while contributing directly to the accuracy and efficiency of our production processes.
