Location: San Leandro, CA Schedule: Full-time, flexible availability required Reports to: Regional Operations Director VCA Bay Area Veterinary Specialists (BAVS), a leading 24-hour Emergency and Specialty Referral Hospital in San Leandro, is seeking a Hospital Administrator to join and lead our high-performing team. As Hospital Administrator, you will lead the daily operations of a fast-paced hospital of approximately 100 associates, including veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and support staff. This leadership role is central to ensuring exceptional patient care, high associate engagement, and client satisfactionwhile maintaining sound financial performance and operational excellence. This is an onsite role. Key Leadership Responsibilities
Strategic & Financial Management: Full P&L accountability, budget creation, forecasting, and financial performance Monitor KPIs and drive hospital profitability through data-driven decisions Team Leadership & Culture Building: Partner with the Medical Director to align medical and operational goals Foster a culture of positivity, professionalism, accountability, and inclusivity Promote teamwork, respectful communication, and high morale across departments Inspire and mentor future leaders within the hospital Client & Patient Experience: Ensure high levels of service excellence and consistent client satisfaction Uphold hospital standards and proactively address concerns or feedback Talent Development & Retention: Lead recruiting, onboarding, and retention strategies for clinical and non-clinical staff Identify skill gaps and support development through coaching and training Promote a safe, supportive, and growth-focused environment for all team members Marketing & Community Engagement: Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to strengthen community presence and referral relationships Actively support initiatives to promote hospital services and outreach Qualifications & Skills
Minimum 35 years of progressive leadership experience managing large teams Bachelor's degree in Business, Hospitality, Healthcare Management, or related field (preferred) P&L responsibility and budget management experience required Strong background in hospitality, operations management, or veterinary practice management preferred Proven ability to lead with emotional intelligence, resilience, and integrity Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and team-building skills Demonstrated ability to manage change, balance priorities, and lead through ambiguity Prior experience in veterinary emergency or specialty medicine is highly desirable Working Conditions
Flexibility in schedule and availability to meet hospital needs, including occasional evenings or weekends High-paced environment requiring strong time management and organizational skills This position may require standing for extended periods, occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds, and working in a fast-paced environment.
