Job Summary:
The Technical Representative is responsible for the evaluation, documentation, and estimation of existing commercial roofing systems. This role requires a deep understanding of commercial roof assemblies, industry standards, and repair/restoration techniques. The ideal candidate will conduct occasional site inspections, perform comprehensive take-offs, produce accurate estimates, and generate detailed condition reports to support project bids and recommendations.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Evaluation & Inspections (As needed):
Perform thorough on-site roof inspections for commercial and industrial properties.
Identify roof system types, conditions, deficiencies, and potential failure points.
Document findings with photographs, sketches, and detailed field notes.
Technical Analysis & Reporting:
Prepare professional technical reports, including condition assessments, scopes of work, and recommendations for repair, restoration, or replacement.
Utilize moisture scans, core sampling, and infrared technology as necessary.
Estimating & Take-offs:
Generate detailed roof take-offs using manual and digital tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Excel, EagleView, Edge Estimating).
Prepare accurate estimates for repair, maintenance, restoration, and re-roof projects.
Ensure estimates align with company pricing standards, scope of work, and profit objectives.
Project Support & Communication:
Collaborate with project managers, sales, and foremen to ensure project scope is communicated clearly.
Attend client meetings to present findings and support the sales process with technical expertise.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of roofing systems, code requirements, manufacturer guidelines, and safety standards.
Documentation & Record Keeping:
Maintain organized records of site visits, estimates, reports, and client communications.
Ensure compliance with all internal documentation and quality control processes.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or GED required.
Associate or bachelors degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field preferred.
Experience:
3+ years of experience in commercial roofing (technical services, estimating, or inspections).
Familiarity with various commercial roofing systems including TPO, EPDM, PVC, BUR, and modified bitumen.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of roof assemblies, flashing details, drainage systems, and repair techniques.
Proficient in roof estimating and CAD/roof layout software.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking.
Comfortable working at heights and in various weather conditions.
Certifications (preferred):
OSHA 10/30 Certification
RRO (Registered Roof Observer) or equivalent certification is a plus.
FAA Part 107 Drone License (for drone inspections, if applicable).
Working Conditions:
Primarily office-based with occasional travel to multiple sites.
Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions and roof environments.
Requires climbing ladders, walking roofs, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
