Remanufacturing Product and Quality Engineer, will support Reman Commodities - product and quality improvement actions from end to end - incoming core from field, to teardown and cleaning processes, product qualifications, assembly and final testing.
The engineer will focus on core utilization, process and product improvements and tooling, machinery technology enhancements. This position requires a team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a dynamic cross-functional team environment with ongoing onsite program reviews at 3rd party supplier locations
RESPONSIBILITIES Understand engineering and industrialization aspects of remanufactured parts, such as design, specifications and machinery, in order to enhance the process without affecting original design intent Understand field quality key process indicators (KPI), working with the organization and Supplier's Engineering and Quality Teams and work on implementing Quality improvement strategies Support product teardown reviews, component attrition studies, root causes and corrective actions - with closed loop feedback to the organizations Engineering and Quality teams Develop project objectives and plans by providing input specific to product/process design requirements, project elements and project scheduling Plan, schedule and lead Process Audits for Reman Parts - verify corrective actions to ensure compliance with technical requirements of the product and process according to a standard Evaluate quality and program risk on an ongoing basis, with emphasis on meeting Throughput expectations Be the voice of Supplier issues on component availabilities and follow up with expeditious execution of corrective actions to mitigate production working with Purchasing and Supply Chain teams
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field Bachelors requirements and/or Engineering requirements can be waived, if candidate has exceptional track record in manufacturing processes with well documented process and quality improvement actions implemented 5+ years of Process or Manufacturing Experience, with emphasis in Powertrain areas Deep knowledge of propulsion systems (i.e. engines, transmissions, driveline, etc) from a design, manufacturing and quality perspective Must be able to lead a team and drive action. Engage the cross functional team to develop a problem statement and provide a robust interim and permanent corrective action. Understand field quality key process indicators (KPI), working with the Supplier's Engineering and Quality Teams and work on implementing Quality improvement strategies
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
5 years of manufacturing, remanufacturing, repair or engineering development experience in Gas or Diesel powertrains and/or system components Experience managing several simultaneous projects and ensure resources are allocated appropriately to meet timing. Microsoft Office proficiency Ability to interpret Engineering Drawings - GD&T Knowledge preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Onsite in Auburn Hills, MI at least 4 days a week Travel required to supplier sites or manufacturing facilities 5% - 10%
