Job Description The Residential HVAC Technician is responsible for providing expert service, maintenance, and installation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in residential settings. This role requires a strong understanding of HVAC principles, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to providing high-quality workmanship and exceptional customer service to homeowners in Greenwood, Indiana, and surrounding areas.

Responsibilities:

Service and Maintenance:

Diagnosing and repairing malfunctions in residential HVAC systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, thermostats, and ductwork. Performing routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning coils, changing filters, lubricating parts, and checking system performance to ensure optimal efficiency and prevent breakdowns. Troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and refrigerant-related issues. Accurately documenting all service and maintenance performed, including parts used and recommendations for future work.

Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:

Utilizing diagnostic tools and equipment to accurately identify the root cause of HVAC system problems. Interpreting wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals. Providing homeowners with clear and concise explanations of the issues and recommended solutions.

Customer Service:

Communicating professionally and respectfully with homeowners. Explaining service and repair options, providing accurate cost estimates, and obtaining necessary approvals. Addressing customer questions and concerns effectively. Maintaining a clean and organized work area in the customer's home. Ensuring customer satisfaction with all work performed.

Safety and Compliance:

Adhering to all safety policies and procedures, including the proper handling of refrigerants and electrical components. Complying with all local, state, and federal HVAC codes and regulations relevant to Greenwood, Indiana. Maintaining a clean and safe work vehicle. Properly disposing of old equipment and materials.

Professional Development:

Staying up-to-date on the latest HVAC technologies, industry trends, and code changes through ongoing training and certifications. Obtaining and maintaining necessary certifications (e.g., EPA Section 608).

Parts and Inventory Management:

Maintaining an adequate stock of common service parts in the work vehicle. Accurately documenting the use of parts and materials. Ordering necessary parts as needed.

Requirements

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a vocational or technical HVAC program preferred. 8 years of experience as a Residential HVAC Technician. EPA Section 608 certification required. Valid driver's license and a clean driving record. Strong knowledge of residential HVAC systems, including different types of furnaces, air conditioners, and heat pumps. Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills in electrical, mechanical, and refrigerant systems. Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical manuals. Proficiency in using HVAC testing and diagnostic equipment. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physical stamina and ability to work in confined spaces, and withstand various weather conditions. Physical Demands:

Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Exposure to varying temperatures and weather conditions. Work in confined spaces such as attics and crawl spaces. Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work with tools and equipment. Work Environment:

Primarily in residential settings, involving travel to customer homes in Greenwood, Indiana, and surrounding areas. May involve working in attics, crawl spaces, basements, and outdoors in various weather conditions. Exposure to dust, dirt, and other common residential environmental factors.
