Overview

We are seeking an experienced Chemical Engineer (5-10 years) with a strong background in combustion systems, exhaust flows, and process optimization. This role is critical to improving the performance of our natural gas-fired furnaces and ovens, stack exhaust systems, heat exchangers, and chemical processes associated with pickling, metal coaters, and painting operations. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with practical problem-solving and a collaborative approach to drive efficiency, safety, and compliance.

This role will be 100% onsite initially with potential to be hybrid based on business needs.

Duties Analyze, optimize, and maintain combustion systems for industrial furnaces and ovens, ensuring fuel efficiency, emissions control, and compliance with NFPA and environmental standards. Evaluate and improve gas flows, stack exhaust systems, and ductwork, including calculations for exhaust volumes, draft, and fan/blower performance. Optimize heat exchangers and energy recovery systems to reduce fuel consumption and improve thermal efficiency. Support chemical process improvements in pickling, metallic coating, and painting operations, focusing on safe handling, efficiency, and waste minimization. Monitor and interpret emissions and flue gas data (O₂, CO, CO₂, NOx, VOCs) to guide tuning and corrective actions. Develop and implement process control strategies to reduce quality losses, improve resource utilization, and ensure consistent performance. Conduct feasibility studies and cost analyses for combustion and process improvement projects, balancing efficiency, compliance, and ROI. Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and project teams to deliver practical solutions that support production goals. Prepare reports and technical presentations to communicate findings, recommendations, and progress to stakeholders. Stay current on industry standards and advancements in combustion, exhaust, and environmental technologies. Minimum:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related Engineering studies. 5 years of demonstrated experience as a Chemical Engineer in an industrial environment. Strong understanding of chemical processes, thermodynamics, and reaction engineering. Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS). Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental compliance. Preferred:

Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering or related Engineering studies. 10 years of demonstrated experience as a Chemical Engineer in an industrial environment. Skills

Proven experience in combustion tuning, flue gas analysis, and efficiency improvement. Ability to design and calculate exhaust flows, duct systems, and ventilation requirements. Use of PipeSim or equivalent for development of pipe and ducting sizing calculations. Familiarity with environmental compliance regulations (EPA, local air quality, NFPA standards). Proficiency with process modeling and engineering tools (Aspen/HYSYS, CHEMCAD, CFD software, or equivalent). Capability in understanding and developing PID's and PFD's Strong data analysis and reporting skills, with proficiency in Excel, Mathcad, Python, or similar tools. Effective communicator and collaborator, with experience working alongside operations, maintenance, and project teams. Ability to perform field measurements and inspections in an industrial environment, including working around heavy machinery and in confined spaces. Ability to climb ladders and multiple-level stairs as part of on-site engineering work.

Work Location : In person

Salary Range: This position's estimated annual base salary is $97,156.00 - $165,000.00. Actual base salary will be dependent on an individual's skills, qualifications, and experience. This role is eligible for 401k Savings plan, Healthcare (medical, dental and vision), and other generous rewards.
