The Weld/Fab Product Engineer works closely with other members of the Engineering/Product Development and Operations teams to design and build new welded and/or fabricated parts with quality, manufacturability, durability, and safety in mind. Also responsible for fixture building and working with machine fabricators as necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES : • Weld and fabricate pontoon boat part and fixtures using a variety of fabrication equipment and welding techniques • Collaborate with Drafting/Design Engineers to ensure accuracy of documentation and prints • Engineer products and fixtures that ensure quality, longevity, and manufacturability • Work with machine fabricators to develop new equipment as needed • Prepare designs and develop products for R&D team • Perform special modifications to existing products • Purchase materials and components to complete assigned fabrication projects • Maintain schedule to ensure on time delivery of fabrication projects • Support projects throughout the fabrication, assembly, and installation process • Design and develop new racking and fixtures for operations • Read, interpret, and produce technical documents including CAD drawings • Assist with product development process using additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping • Maintain assigned shop equipment in good working order
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or related field desired, or equivalent qualification or a combination of job-related education • 2+ years' experience in lean manufacturing preferred • Proficient in steel and aluminum welding and fabrication (MIG, TIG, mill, lathe, bandsaw, drill press, ironworker) • Able to work efficiently with minimal supervision • Excellent communication skills • Demonstrated ability to achieve goals, results-oriented and self-driven • Excellent written & verbal communication within team and cross-functionally • Highly organized and effective in managing multiple priorities and deadlines • Effective negotiation, and problem-solving skills • Extensive experience with the set up and operation of fabrication equipment • Skilled MIG & TIG Welder - Aluminum and Steel experience required • Excellent problem-solving/troubleshooting ability • Able to read and understand manufacturing drawings • Basic computer skills - Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office • CAD & SolidWorks proficiency are highly preferred • Knowledgeable of ABYC and Coast Guard standards or willing to learn
