Registered Nurse (RN) Role Responsibilities
Camp Good Mourning! Overview: The
Registered Nurse (RN)
at Camp Good Mourning! plays a vital role in ensuring the health and safety of all campers, volunteers, and staff during the camp weekend. This licensed medical professional provides onsite clinical care, administers medications, responds to injuries or illnesses, and supports a safe and nurturing environment for children grieving the loss of a parent or sibling. The RN works collaboratively with the Camp Director, Clinical Director, and other camp personnel to uphold camp health policies and provide compassionate care in alignment with CGM!’s mission.
Core Responsibilities:
· Medication Administration: oSafely store, dispense, and document all prescribed camper and volunteer medications. oEnsure medications are administered according to doctor’s instructions and family-provided information. · Health Assessments & Monitoring: oConduct initial wellness checks upon camper and volunteer arrival. oMonitor campers and volunteers for signs of illness, injury, or emotional distress throughout the weekend. · Respond to Medical Needs: oProvide first aid for minor injuries and appropriate care for illnesses. oAssess and respond to urgent or emergent medical situations and determine if offsite medical care is needed. oMaintain clear and timely documentation of all treatments provided. · Collaboration & Communication: oCommunicate promptly with the Camp Director and Clinical Director about any significant health concerns. oCoordinate with parents/guardians, if needed, regarding camper health updates. · Health Center Management: oMaintain an organized, sanitary, and stocked Health Center (infirmary). oEnsure all medical supplies and equipment are accessible and up to date. · Support Emotional Wellness: oProvide a calm, supportive presence to children and volunteers who may experience emotional distress, referring to the Clinical Team when appropriate. · Emergency Preparedness: oParticipate in emergency drills and respond effectively to health-related components of camp-wide emergencies. oEnsure all health records, emergency contact info, and medical forms are reviewed and accessible. · Compliance & Confidentiality: oFollow all CGM! health policies and procedures, as well as local and state medical regulations. oMaintain strict confidentiality regarding all medical records and personal health information.
Ideal Qualifications:
·Current New York State RN license in good standing ·Pediatric, school nurse, or camp nursing experience preferred ·CPR and First Aid certification required (Advanced training a plus) ·Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in a fast-paced or emotionally charged environment ·Compassionate, child-centered approach to care ·Strong communication and documentation skills ·Committed to Camp Good Mourning!’s mission of supporting grieving children in a safe, loving environment
