Grant Summary
The goal of the New Hope Project is to address the opioid epidemic in the American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) community in the Interior region of Alaska. The projects Medicated Assisted Treatment (MAT) Day Treatment Center aims to provide hope and support for individuals with opioid use disorder to achieve a life free of opioid abuse and promote overall wellbeing. The overarching goal is to expand and improve access to medications and treatment for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) among racial and gender minorities, including AI/AN and AI/AN individuals who identify as LGBTQ+.
Position Summary
This position involves delivering recovery support services as a Peer Specialist, relating to consumer needs identified during Day Treatment transition planning.
Job Duties
Conduct weekly culturally appropriate outreach to community organizations and leaders to promote awareness of Recovery Support Services provided by the Behavioral Health Community Coalition and FNA Behavioral Health Services, including the Healthy Transitions Project.
Extract data from documentation to report reductions in illicit opioid use, traumatic stress systems, overdose risks, and disparities.
Distribute naloxone kits and fentanyl test strips.
Assist consumers in achieving recovery through referrals to care systems identified during treatment planning.
Provide one-on-one support and encouragement during recovery.
Monitor services for cultural competence.
Conduct follow-up for up to three months.
Facilitate Talking Circle sessions during recovery support.
Identify emergency needs and transport individuals to emergency services.
Develop referral activities to meet project goals over the project duration.
Share lived experience with consumers and families.
Share insights on navigating mental health systems.
Ensure accurate data collection and timely entry into the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Attend mandatory training sessions as designated by the Project Manager and/or Clinical Supervisor.
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with 42 CFR Part 2 and HIPAA.
Attend all required staff meetings.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Proficiency in operating computers and software such as Windows, Word, and Excel.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to follow instructions accurately.
Knowledge of assisting individuals during data collection, especially in escalated situations.
Deep understanding and sensitivity to diverse cultures and lifestyles, with experience working with Alaska Native populations.
Ability to protect confidentiality, compliant with HIPAA & 42 CFR regulations.
Understanding of billing procedures.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
At least one year of experience working with AI/AN populations and providing culturally specific services.
At least one year of lived experience with substance abuse or co-occurring disorders.
Preferred Qualifications
Associates degree in behavioral health or a related field.
One year of experience in program or project management.
Experience working with the LGBTQ+ community.
