Students in our area need help!

You can become a volunteer tutor for adults or in-school youth in the Lapeer County Area. Help them reach their literacy and math goals to gain independence! We offer a free, tutor training. In-person tutor training is offered for one day, then volunteer tutors are required to completed approximately 5 hours of homework before they are placed with a student. Hours are flexible after training. Most volunteers work from 2 to 15 hours per week. Tutoring can occur in person or remotely. This is an opportunity to really help people change their lives! In our adult program:

Most students have a goal of earning their GED. Tutors work with them to prepare for each of the four sections of the test (Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies). We also help basic literacy students who want to improve their reading skills. Additionally, we offer tutoring for English as a Second Language students. In our in-school tutoring program:

We work with students who need support to be successful in school. This can be in reading and math. We want to keep these kids in school and help nurture a love of learning. For those with teaching experience:

A shortened tutor training process is available for those with teaching credentials.
