SUMMARY
The Product Design Engineer works with customers, Sales, Product Management, Engineering, Supply Chain and Quality to design and cost wire and cable products for manufacturability.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Interpret customer specifications and industry standards/documents to achieve a manufacturable design.
• Provide design solutions to support new product opportunities and existing product enhancements.
• Understand company production capabilities to provide design and cost estimate to maximize company profit potential.
• Provide technical liaison between customers and Amphenol-CIT development, Customer Service, and production personnel.
• Work with established part number systems to assign proper part numbers to new products.
• Improve and establish design procedures and utilize design and costing standards for quote and order processing.
• Work with Supply Chain, Process Engineering and Quality in evaluating raw materials and suppliers.
• Perform technical contract review.
• Prepare product specifications sheets for Customer Service and customers.
• Develop, document, and maintain product BOM’s, routings and test plans for cable manufacture.
• Review work orders for accuracy of BOM, routing, test plans and revision

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred; Associate degree with at least 5 years of related engineering experience in wire and cable industry considered
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts
• Probability and statistical inference skills
LANGUAGE SKILLS
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
JOB SKILLS
• Use of office software tools including Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel, Word, Outlook, Access and Teams.
• Apply understanding of database applications and potential solutions.
• Demonstrates good judgment and decision-making skills.
• Ability to be flexible and able to function comfortably and prioritize multiple tasks and projects in a fast paced, constantly changing, and ambiguous environment while maintaining a positive team environment.
• Reliable and flexible to work additional hours on short notice to complete orders and/or special projects to meet customer demands.
• Solid presentation skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Amphenol-CIT is a clean facility, housing different machinery, equipment, processes, and chemicals which produce potential hazards in the work environment such as: ergonomic, chemical, machine point of operation, and powered industrial vehicle traffic. These hazards are controlled through means of engineering controls, such as machine guarding, and administrative controls, such as safety policies and programs. In certain areas of the facility, employees are required to wear Personal Protective equipment such as Hearing Protection, Safety Glasses, Safety Toe Shoes, and hand protection.
