Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York, United States, 10400
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking a highly motivated
bio-process development engineer
to join a translational academic lab focused on the large-scale production of lab-grown red blood cells (lgRBCs). This role lies at the intersection of stem cell biology, erythropoiesis, and bioprocess engineering, with direct applications in transfusion medicine and cell-based therapeutics.
WORK ACTIVITIES
Drive the development of scalable red blood cell manufacturing platforms
Culture and differentiate stem or progenitor cells under defined conditions
Apply CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing to engineer erythroid cells
Design and operate bioreactor systems for high-density perfusion culture
Optimize protocols for erythroid differentiation, expansion, and harvest
Contribute to experimental design, data analysis, and manuscript preparation
Collaborate with internal and external partners on translational applications
Maintain clear documentation and assist in grant and patent applications
QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology with 3 years experience; Master's degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Extensive experience with mammalian cell culture (stem/progenitor cells preferred)
Demonstrated ability to work independently and solve complex problems
Familiarity with erythroid biology, iPSC/HSPC differentiation, or hematopoiesis
Proficiency with genome editing tools such as CRISPR/Cas9
Experience with bioreactor systems, perfusion culture, or bioprocess scale-up
Engineering background in bioengineering, chemical engineering, or related field
Experience working in biotech, CDMO, or GMP-adjacent environments
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
Familiarity with red blood cell phenotyping or transfusion medicine
Prior involvement in translational or interdisciplinary research projects
Interest in commercialization and startup participation
Minimum Salary Range
USD $70,000.00/Yr. Maximum Salary Range
