Job Title: Transmission Line Engineer
Job Description
As a Transmission Line Engineer, you will be responsible for designing transmission lines within the 69kV to 765kV range. You will perform structural analysis and design of various structures including pole, lattice, framed, and guyed. The role involves conducting foundation designs, selecting conductors, and performing shielding, grounding, and induction studies. You will also develop cost estimates, schedules, and prepare specifications for the procurement of transmission line materials and construction.
Responsibilities
Design transmission lines in the 69kV to 765kV range.
Perform structural analysis and design of pole, lattice, framed, and guyed structures.
Conduct foundation designs and conductor selection studies.
Perform shielding, grounding, and induction studies.
Develop cost estimates and schedules.
Prepare specifications for transmission line materials and construction.
Specify transmission line components.
Model transmission lines in PLS-CADD.
Determine right of way requirements and calculate conductor sags.
Develop transmission line plan and profile drawings.
Review vendor submittals.
Essential Skills
Three or more years of experience in transmission line engineering.
Knowledge of practical engineering principles including basic transmission line engineering.
Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and principles for producing technical plans and drawings.
Experience with PLS-CADD.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and designation as an Engineer in Training.
Proficiency with programs such as PLS-TOWER, SAG10, MFAD, ArcGIS, CDEGS, AutoCAD, and Microstation.
Experience in writing and providing support documentation for engineering calculations.
Familiarity with design codes and standards such as NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.
Work Environment
This position offers a hybrid work schedule with flexibility. The company is a privately held firm with a rich history of over 130 years and is ranked 36th on the ENR top 500 design firms. The industry is currently experiencing significant growth due to the need to update national infrastructure systems. There is a small team of 15 people in the local Denver office, with plans for expansion, offering opportunities for career growth into project management and client-facing roles.

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $75.00/hr.
