Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students provides strategic leadership in the development and implementation of student affairs programs and services for the Rose Hill campus.

This position works closely with the Vice President of Student Affairs to design and enhance the student experience, promote student well-being, and create a supportive campus community.

Essential Functions

Provides strategic direction and oversight across the student experience at Rose Hill, including student involvement programs and services, orientation and first-year experience, advising and support for student organizations, and collaborative work with campus partners to create a robust co-curricular student activities program, including large-scale University event planning, campus center operations, space reservation services, club and office activities fee budget management, and student leadership development programs.

Provides strategic direction and oversight for residential life programs and services, including housing assignments, community development initiatives, and crisis and emergency management protocols.

Develops and implements policies and procedures related to student conduct, student crisis support services, and student assistance, including complainant and respondents in sexual misconduct-related incidents, and risk management, including the mental health and medical-related re-entry process for Rose Hill-based students.

Provides strategic direction and oversight for commuter student services, including the Commuter Assistant program, to ensure the needs of commuter students are met, including providing resources, programming, and support to enhance their campus experience.

Serves as a campus contact point and resource for students, faculty, and staff on matters related to student affairs, support, assistance, and in managing emergencies.

Continually assess, improve, and oversee substance misuse prevention and intervention programs to promote student health and well-being and provide support services for students in need.

Oversees the daily operations of the Dean of Students office and provides leadership to staff members.

Collaborates with campus partners, especially in the undergraduate colleges, to enhance student engagement, retention, and success.

Collaborates with campus stakeholders to address student concerns and promote a positive campus climate.

Management Responsibilities Provides strategic leadership and supervises others who supervise. Responsible for hiring, training, developing, managing performance, administering corrective action, makes compensation decisions and for managing strategic views at a high level.

Additional Functions

Serves on University-wide task forces and committees as needed.

Coordinates regularly with the Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students at Lincoln Center to share best practices, develop joint initiatives, and promote a cohesive student affairs strategy.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience

Master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, or a related field.

Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs leadership roles.

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills

Strong leadership, management, community-building, and liaison skills.

Knowledge of best practices in student affairs and higher education administration in the Jesuit tradition.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and attention to detail.

Demonstrated sound judgment, integrity, and ethical decision-making skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

Experience in developing and implementing student programs and services in keeping with Fordham's mission.

Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as the ability to partner with staff, students, faculty, parents, alumni, and administrators with diplomacy and tact.

Ability to build relationships and establish collaborative partnerships across the institution.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in residential life, student involvement, and/or student conduct.

Minimum Starting Salary $150,000

Maximum Starting Salary $175,000

Note Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
