About the Position

The Court Probate Investigator Lead provides guidance, assistance, and training to a team of Court Investigators in addition to performing the duties of the Court Investigator. The Court Investigator conducts site visits, makes observations, interviews family members and nursing staff, creates reports and makes recommendations to the court regarding guardianship and conservatorship cases involving incapacitated adults and minors. The successful candidate is comfortable working with populations that include the seriously mentally ill, disabled, and homeless populations. The main job duties require the Court Investigator to conduct home visits, visit psychiatric hospitals and assisted living facilities or group homes.

Work assignments and locations vary throughout Maricopa County. Assignments will be based upon the needs of the Department.

Position Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work, Human Relations, Public Administration, Nursing, or a related field Experience:

Two (2) years of experience serving seriously mentally ill populations, persons with disabilities, or the homeless population OR

Combined Education and Experience Qualifications:

An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience as outlined above may substitute on a year-for-year basis Other Requirements:

Applicants must have or obtain a valid Arizona Driver License and reliable vehicle by time of hire. Employees will be reimbursed for the use of a privately owned vehicle for work purposes at the current mileage reimbursement rate established by the U.S. General Services Administration. Conducts investigations to support the Judicial Branch Probate Mental Health's mission pertaining to guardianship, conservatorship and adoption matters. Conducts home visits, visits psychiatric hospitals, inpatient hospitals and assisted living facilities or group homes to observe, interview and make recommendations regarding adults and children who are involved in guardianship and conservatorship petitions. Effectively manages and maintains a high volume constantly changing caseload. Locates and interviews all parties named in Probate matters. Reviews medical and psychiatric documentation to assess the condition and needs of the individual named in the petition for guardianship or conservatorship. Communicates with attorney's, hospital staff, mental health providers, social service agencies, assisted living or group homes, and placement centers to obtain information needed to render a thorough report and recommendation to the court. Articulate the process and procedures of the investigation, guardianship, conservatorship and court to concerned members of the investigation. Appears as a witness and testifies in Court as necessary regarding the investigation and subsequent recommendation. Maintains a valid Arizona Driver License, personal vehicle, Vehicle Use Permit and performs extensive travel throughout Maricopa County. Assists the Supervisor with training new Investigators and with continuing education training. Assists the Supervisor with short turn-around cases, out of county cases, and complex cases. Provides support to Court Investigators who are subpoenaed. Maintains advanced knowledge of Probate Investigations Administration procedures.

Working Conditions

:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Employee must use personal vehicle as extensive travel will be required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may need to communicate clearly, perceive details of objects that are close by, and maintain various physical positions for extended periods, such as sitting, standing, or walking. The job may involve using hands for tasks such as typing, handling objects, or operating tools, as well as reaching with hands and arms. Occasionally, the employee may be required to move or lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.

Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate up to the midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.

The Judicial Branch of Arizona in Maricopa County participates in the State Retirement systems ASRS or PSPRS. As such, mandatory membership for all full-time employees includes payroll deducted contributions consistent with each retirement system's requirements. The current contribution rate for ASRS is 12.27% and the current contribution rate for PSPRS is 5.84% and up for the defined contribution plan and 8.82% for the defined benefit plan.
