General Scope of Responsibilities
The Assistant Principal supports the instruction and operations of the school, fostering a safe, inclusive, and high-performing learning environment. In alignment with Windsor Locks Public Schools' Core Values, Beliefs About Learning, and Vision of the Graduate, the Assistant Principal assists with leading continuous improvement by cultivating innovative teaching, building strong partnerships with families and the community, and creating a culture of belonging and high expectations for all students and staff.
Relationship within the Organization
The Assistant Principal reports directly to the Principal and works in close partnership with district administrators, instructional coaches, and school-based teams. The Assistant Principal models and fosters equity-centered decision-making, proactive communication, and a strong commitment to the success of every student.
Specific Responsibilities
:
Administers discipline for all 6th, 7th and 8th grades; keep parents informed of all serious behavioral problems and maintains disciplinary records accordingly. Observes, evaluates and confers with teachers. Chairs weekly meetings; refers, if necessary, students with attendance, abuse or neglect problems to DCF for juvenile matters. Supervises all after school activities including but not limited to dances, concerts, sporting events, open house and plays. Supervises after school detention; ensures orderly boarding and departure of late bus. Assists cafeteria personnel with lunch supervision. Assists principal in developing a master schedule. Coordinates coverage for teachers Available for individual conferences with staff, students and parents. Confers frequently with parents to foster a positive parent/school relationship. Coordinates all grade reporting. Assists in preparation of annual budget. Assists at faculty meetings and any other meetings assigned by the principal; presides when requested in the absence of the principal. Participates in recruiting, screening and employment processes. Assists in student transition from elementary to middle school. Assists in student transition from middle school to high school. Assists in the initiation and/or coordination of instructional programs. Assists the principal in the implementation and supervision of inter-school, intramural and co-curricular activities. Assumes the role of principal in the principal's absence. Provides leadership in the development, research and improvement in curriculum and in working with team leaders. Reports conditions of the school plant, equipment, and grounds to the maintenance department. Attends team meetings. Performs other duties as appropriate and required.
Experience and Training
Certified teacher in any content area 092 CT Administrator Certification - Must possess at time of interview At least 5 years of successful experience in a school setting Have knowledge in teaching and learning, literacy, SRBI, special education, challenging behavior laws, investigations, and experience in maintaining a positive, safe school climate within the school environment
Salary: As per contract
