Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Cold Finish Nebraska is seeking a highly motivated Metallurgist Intern to join our team. This internship provides valuable, hands-on-experience in metallurgical processes, material testing, and quality analysis. The intern will work closely with experienced engineers and metallurgists to gain practical knowledge in metallurgy and its application in an industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the development and implementation of metallurgical safety protocols and standard operating procedures.

Conduct routine inspections and audits of metallurgical processes and lab equipment to identify potential safety or quality risks.

Participate in investigations of process deviations or material failures, contributing to root cause analysis and corrective action planning.

Support training initiatives related to metallurgical safety, lab practices, and material handling procedures.

Maintain accurate records of test results, safety checks, and process documentation in accordance with internal and regulatory standards.

Collaborate with cross-functional teamsincluding Safety, Quality, and Production to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement in metallurgical operations.

Perform other metallurgical or safety-related duties as assigned by the Metallurgy team.

Minimum Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in a Bachelors program in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Strong academic background in materials, metallurgy, or related coursework.

Familiarity with metallurgical testing equipment and methods is preferred but not required.

Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and in a team setting.

Proficient with Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduating in May 2027

Previous internship or work experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.

Familiarity with OSHA regulations and industrial safety standards, especially in laboratory and manufacturing settings.

Proficiency in data collection and documentation related to material properties and process performance.

Basic understanding of metallurgical testing methods, such as hardness testing, microscopy, or tensile testing.

Must have supervisor and/or manager recommendation and must be able to perform all essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
