Trenchless Engineer

to join the national Trenchless Services team. This role supports the execution of design and field services related to trenchless engineering, including design and construction applications, under the Trenchless Services Engineering Lead. The Trenchless Engineer will contribute to the Trenchless Program by applying experience and expertise to support engineering and design practices, including hydraulic fracture and inadvertent returns analyses, front-end information collection initiatives (e.g., geotechnical investigations and survey coordination), constructability evaluations, and feasibility assessments for trenchless design and construction. The role involves data management, quality control of design and construction data, planning, risk management, and potentially managing full trenchless projects or components of larger projects. As a licensed Professional Engineer, the individual will review, stamp, and seal project deliverables and may interface with clients and assume a project management role on Trenchless projects. Occasional travel to support field assignments is required, with travel frequency depending on workload. Field responsibilities include site reconnaissance, oversight of trenchless pipeline installations, and communicating field data and status with the Trenchless Services Team. On a day-to-day basis, theyll also be expected to: Perform desktop route selection and evaluate feasibility for trenchless crossings. Carry out site reconnaissance visits. Develop a subsurface investigation program to determine construction feasibility for various trenchless methods. Evaluate surface and subsurface conditions to determine feasibility and preferred construction techniques. Interface with the Teams discipline leads and production staff (e.g., geotechnical, CAD) to support trenchless design deliverables. Communicate regularly with clients regarding project status and technical discussions related to trenchless construction. Estimate quantities of materials and disposal requirements for trenchless installations. Estimate installation loading and stress for trenchless installations. Assess trenchless technologies (HDD, microtunneling, tunneling, Direct Pipe, etc.) and participate in method selection. Perform calculations for carrier pipe and coating specifications. Define workspace requirements for construction equipment at trenchless crossing locations. Prepare or review project documentation including design/construction specifications, bid packages, drawings, reports, and data sets. Build knowledge and use software models for trenchless design. Collaborate with project team members and other company functions on multidisciplinary projects. Develop permit applications and drawings. Understand applicable industry standards and codes across market sectors (Oil & Gas, Water/Wastewater, Power, etc.). Ensure documents and calculations comply with project legislation and standards. Prepare field engineering and as-built documents. Contribute to updating department standards and capture lessons learned. Support HDR PMO processes and align with client project delivery goals. Establish and execute workflow delivery for projects involving trenchless engineering, design, subcontracted services, and construction applications. Procure, manage, and coordinate with subconsultants for trenchless projects. Provide construction oversight and/or field observation, report daily activities, and communicate findings to the team. Preferred Qualifications Minimum 10 years of professional experience in consulting/engineering, with preferred experience in Horizontal Directional Drilling, microtunneling, and/or Direct Pipe. Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification. Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D. Experience in a remote work environment. Experience in trenchless design and knowledge of trenchless construction methods. Team-oriented with accountability and reliability. Strong writing and computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel). Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Self-motivated; able to work autonomously while staying connected with a national team. Accountability for time and work ethic. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Travel required; frequency and duration depend on project needs and may be extensive. The compensation range for this position depends on experience and location and is disclosed as a target range: $125,000 - $150,000. This description covers full-time regular positions; temporary or part-time roles may have limited benefits.
