What you will be doing:
Estimate new construction projects and price change orders on existing contracts. Review bid instructions, architectural and structural drawings, construction documents, and specifications. Prepare accurate "take-offs" for labor, materials, and equipment (cranes, lifts, etc.). Communicate with vendors to obtain pricing and lead times for materials and products. Prepare and submit detailed proposals, budgets, and change orders. Collaborate closely with the project management team to ensure accuracy and efficiency. Develop and review shop drawings and erection drawings in compliance with contract documents and industry standards. Ensure drawings and material lists are coordinated with architects, engineers, and contractors. Verify compliance with local building codes, project specifications, and industry regulations. Coordinate with fabrication and field crews to resolve design or detailing issues during production and erection. Maintain organized documentation for estimates, drawings, revisions, and contract changes. Attend pre-construction meetings and project review sessions with clients and engineers. Identify potential cost, schedule, or constructability risks and propose solutions. Support the development of fabrication and erection schedules related to the structural steel scope. What you must have:
Minimum 5 years of proven experience in construction/steel estimating, preferably within the steel fabrication or erection industry. Strong understanding of construction documents, blueprints, and specifications. Proficiency in cost management, budgeting, and quantity take-offs. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in client-facing discussions about project scope and contracts. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines. Computer literate: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel; proficiency in Bluebeam and Procore required. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred. Bilingual in Spanish or Portuguese is a strong plus. Thank you for your interest in this opportunity.
